Equipment

  • food processor

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/8 cup soybean oil (or other neutral oil)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp salt (granulated)
  • 1 large pinch citric acid
  • 1 large pinch MSG
  • 1 tsp honey — optional, for sweeter taste

Instructions

  • Toast the sesame seeds in a pan on the stove or on a baking sheet in the oven, stirring as needed (frequently for stove, occasionally for oven) to toast evenly, until fragrant and golden brown.
  • Process the sesame seeds in the food processor until they are coarsely chopped, with few whole seeds remaining.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the food processor and process until thoroughly mixed and light in color. You may want to start with smaller quantities of the salt, citric acid, and MSG, and add more to taste.

Notes

Use as a dipping sauce for vegetables, a dressing for salads, or a condiment for rice.
